It’s widely known to have antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties (which you can read more about here). Honey is also rich in antioxidants and holds similar superpowers to thyme (antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and beyond). Combine the two and what do you get? This thyme-infused medicinal honey, of course.
This mixture is ideal for fighting off coughs, colds, and sore throats. Containing only two ingredients, it’s one of the most affordable recipes on our blog.
Okay, we don’t want to make you read through an essay when you’re here for a recipe – let’s get mixing!
Ingredients
- Thyme
- Honey (raw unprocessed is best)
Method
- Fill a 3/4 glass jar with thyme and then fill it to the top with honey.
- Bring some water to a boil in a saucepan and then put the jar in the hot water – mix carefully.
- The honey will start melting and the thyme will release its aroma and medicinal properties into the honey.
- Leave the jar on low heat for about 30 minutes – do not let the honey boil!
- Turn off the heat and put the lid on the jar – keep it in a sunny place for two weeks, stirring regularly.
- Once two weeks have passed, you can take out the thyme and put the honey in the cupboard where it can be kept for a few months.
Thyme medicinal honey can be consumed throughout the year and served as you please! You can take one to three teaspoons per day – stir it into your tea, swirl it onto some yoghurt, spread it on a slice of bread, or use it as a marinade for chicken.
